What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is characterized by the perception of sound within the ear, occurring without any external auditory stimulus. This condition can manifest differently among individuals; while some may experience little to no disturbance, others find it to be an incessant nuisance, described as a constant whistling, buzzing, or hissing that disrupts focus and concentration during daily activities.
The management of tinnitus often involves sound therapy, a treatment modality in which patients listen to sounds that closely resemble the noise perceived by their ears for approximately 4 to 6 hours daily. This method of sound masking aims to reduce the perception of tinnitus and helps to recalibrate auditory experiences.
Research suggests that consistent adherence to audio treatment over a six-week period can lead to a significant reduction in symptoms, with some individuals reporting complete relief.
